Sign the petition to protect Cape York's future

Dear Friend

Sign the petition to protect Cape York's future.

Together we have made real progress in protecting the wonders of Cape York Peninsula.

With your help, The Wilderness Society's campaign has ensured that more than 20,000 square kilometres of land - ten times the size of the Australian Capital Territory - has been returned to Traditional Owners as freehold and National Park... and there's more in the pipeline.

However, we are now at a difficult crossroad. Although Cape York has been recognised as one of the last great wild places on earth for over 20 years, communities and governments have struggled to resolve the challenges of providing economic futures for Cape York's people - alongside protection of its extraordinary beauty and its World Heritage values. Tensions bubble as different interests push their vision for the region.

We have a once in a generation opportunity to protect Cape York Peninsula. Both the state and Federal Governments have committed policies and resources to protect the Cape. But unfortunately different parts of government are not talking to each other - which limits progress. In order to realise this opportunity we need real leadership and vision from our political leaders, and a clear and simple plan.

We need you to join us in calling on Queensland's Premier Bligh and Federal Ministers Burke and Garrett to provide strong and inspired leadership. Delivering a positive future for Cape York Peninsula and its people requires a big vision and resources to deliver it.

Send a message to Premier Bligh and Federal Ministers Burke and Garrett calling for coordinated action and leadership for Cape York's future.

Thankyou for your help on this important issue,

Lyndon Schneiders
Northern Australia Campaign Manager
The Wilderness Society Inc

PS Copies of The Wilderness Society's proposal for coordinated action on Cape York has been sent to governments, Traditional Owners and people across the Cape. Click here to read the Plan
