The Issue
Pier A is the last historic building in Battery Park City Authority. This is the very place our grandparents first stepped foot on these shores. This is a public building and should be used for cultural purposes.
The Battery Park City Authority turned down a proposal to turn it into a world class Italian American Museum. Instead, they decided to grant a lease for a high-end restaurant.
The Jewish Community has a museum at Battery Park City and the Irish Community has the Irish Famine Memorial. Both were granted by the Battery Park City Authority. Why not the Italian American Community?
