Psoriasis is a chronic disease of the immune system that appears on the skin, usually in the form of thick, red, scaly patches. Up to 30 percent of people with psoriasis also develop psoriatic arthritis, which causes pain, stiffness and swelling in and around the joints.
Psoriasis is associated with other serious conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
Psoriatic arthritis can develop at any time, but it most commonly appears between the ages of 30 and 50 and affects men at a higher rate than women. Genes, the immune system and environmental factors are all believed to play a role in the onset of the disease.
According to the National Institutes of Health, as many as 7.5 million Americans have psoriasis.
As with most chronic, autoimmune diseases, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis require ongoing treatment.
Please even if you do not have Psoriasis, please state your support for those who do.
The first petitions is S. 571, Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Research, Cure, and Care Act of 2009 reintroduced in Senate
The second one: H.R. 930, Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Research, Cure, and Care Act of 2009
The third and last one: Tell your state insurance commissioner to help save phototherapy for psoriasis!
