Vermont Yankee is an old and unsafe nuclear power plant.

It leaks tritium, cesium and strontium-90 into the nearby soils, groundwater and likely the Connecticut River. Large parts of the cooling tower have broke allowing thousands of gallons of water to escape.

It doesn't offer as cheap of power as people think. As a matter of fact, if you include start-up costs and long-term costs (such as storage or nuclear waste) it is very expensive energy.
