Declare 30th July as ‘The National Whistle-blower Day of India’

Declare 30th July as ‘The National Whistle-blower Day of India’
The Issue
Since ages, India has been famous in the world for whistle-blowing. In ‘SATYUGA’ Prahlad, the son of demon king Hiranakashyap was a whistleblower. As per Ramayana, even in ‘TRETA YUG’, Bhibheeshan, the younger brother of demon king Ravana blew the whistle against each and every illegal act of Ravana. In post-independence India there have been innumerable instances of whistle blowers being killed. So it’s hardly a surprise that such few people come forward with instances of wrong doing. Some 150 whistle blowers have been harassed or jailed while 20 have been killed.
Whistle-blowing has always been a very essential element for delivery of good governance. So just to Pay Homage to those RTI martyrs and whistle-blowers who sacrificed their lives for society , foster courage in the minds of those RTI users and whistle-blowers who are still fighting against the corrupt system, we have decided to mark 30th July as ‘The National Whistleblower Day of India’. This year on coming 30th July, at 12 Noon, we shall make a two minute quiscent prayer for the solace of deceased RTI activists’ & whistleblowers’ families and then we shall blow a whistle to mark the day.
To us, a whistleblower is the one who informs the public or the concerned authorities of suspected illegal activities. These illegal activities could range from violation of simple law to fraud and corruption. Here, We are using the term ‘whistleblower’ in a broader perspective and don’t intend to limit it to the public servants or employees only. Whosoever raises his/her voice against the unlawful, unethical, unsocial acts for the larger interest of the society , is a whistleblower to us.
So we are requesting you to formally declare 30th July as ‘The National Whistleblower Day of India’.
