*In a matter of weeks, residences of Grand Junction received at least two telephone books each, and there is starting of a third wave of distribution.

*San Francisco, CA just passed through the Board of Supervisors a bill to end distribution of yellow page books with an opt-in system 9-1.

*It is time that larger cities look towards the end waste by 2020 campaigns, and this is one step in the process.

Set Grand Junction on the road to end waste by 2020

Greetings,

As you may, or may not know, San Francisco, CA Supervisors voted 9-1 to end the unwanted delivery of yellow-pages to city residents in an effort to put San Francisco on the road to end waste by 2020. By doing so, the City has looked at an opt-in system if you still want a phone book delivered.

In Grand Junction, the city residents have been bombarded with several phone books per house, some reaching three to four in a matter of weeks, all from different companies. This is wasteful and has to come to an end. With the online phone directories, the use of cell phones, and the lack of land-lines, phone books are becoming a thing of the past, and a huge waste of paper and ink that are taking up room in landfills.

By signing and sending this to you, I am requesting that the City Council of Grand Junction, CO start looking towards the future. As the City grows, the population is raising and so is our wasteful nature. The City Of Grand Junction has the opportunity to seize this and run with it, and maybe be able to pave the way for the areas close to us (Fruita, Palisade, Glenwood Springs, Montrose, Rifle, Silt, etc...) to join in and end this needless waste.

For more information on the Stop the Waste! project, you can visit www.banthephonebook.org.

Of course, this isn't the only way to end the waste, but it is a good start. I also encourage the City of Grand Junction to look into other options such as recycling programs for residential areas, including apartment complexes.

Regards,
