Senate Improve Food Safety Regulation

Senate Improve Food Safety Regulation
The Issue
The Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009 (HR 2749), recently passed by the House, is a first step toward sustainable farming and protecting wildlife habitat. However, this bill does not address the underlying causes of America's persistent food safety crisis: factory farms and chemical-intensive agriculture. Most food poisoning epidemics over the past decade have been a direct result of water and soil pollution from large factory farms. Such farms also endanger human health by inducing antibiotic resistance, spreading viruses and pathogens, such as the Swine Flu and Bird Flu, and contaminating the environment.
