End price discrimination+be transparent
The Issue
Public officials and candidates for public office want to participate in Seattle Pride, but at $1,200, registration is $1,000 more than that of a non-profit, and $500 above that of a national non-profit. Why? SOaP cites the reason of "increasing cost associated with putting on such a large event.Your registration fees help cover the cost of organizing and producing the parade." So my question is in two parts: 1.) What is the justification for bilking candidates and office holders - why is their fee set to something akin to pricing discrimination? and 2.) How much more is this going to cost this year? What costs have risen? How much money does this pull in from sponsorships, registration etc.? Who gets paid here, and how much? Where does surplus money go? Seattle Out & Proud needs to open its books to the public. It makes no sense to bilk people who support us with a number significantly higher than other entries. Telling them they will absorb these "rising costs" says to elected's and candidates. "go away, unless you can pay much more than everyone else." SOaP - open your books and show us what's going on there.
