Tell Sears to Stop Rape and Torture of Young Women

Tell Sears to Stop Rape and Torture of Young Women
The Issue
No human being should be subjected to the abhorrent working conditions that the workers at the Classics Garment Factory in Jordan face every day. With wide-spread accounts of rape, dating back to at least 2007, we are demanding that Sears admits to these cases and opens a full investigation that immediately results in the arrest of alleged serial rapist Anil Santha. In addition, we are demanding that Sears engages in productive talks with The Youth Labor Committee to put an end to such working conditions.
The workers at the Classic Garment Factory, and most likely thousands of other garment factories in the developing world, face rape and abuse daily. It is important to remember that the horrors of rape extend well beyond the action:
"The young women guest workers who are raped at Classic may be full of hurt and anger, but what can they do? If they speak out, they risk having their names publicly known. If this happens, many, from traditional communities, could lose their chance to marry. Their fiancés will leave them. Their hopes of having a family and a decent life will be smashed. Even their parents may shun them. Rape victims are ostracized." Charles Kernaghan, Director, Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights
Enough is Enough! Help us put human rights above profit and end this disgusting and perverse violence!
