"NO" to weaken the passenger's right to assistance in extraordinary circumstances!

The Issue

The proposal of the European Commission (amending Article 9 of Regulation (EC) No 261/2004) will reduce currently unlimited passenger right to assistance in extraordinary circumstances (e.g. heavy snowfall), by limiting it to the provision of accommodation by any airline to 100 EUR per night and 3 nights.
Air transport most often involves long distances and passengers affected by disruptions are often far from their homes, in a country with nobody to turn to. The prices of the hotel rooms near to the airports, without pre booking, usually exceed level of 100 Euro. Such limit will result in more stranded passengers at the airports and force them to overnight there.
We think the new proposal is a disproportionate response to a very exceptional event. Therefore we say "NO" to weaken current passenger right to assistance in extraordinary circumstances!
