Save Swamis

Save Swamis

The Issue

We all know that Swamis is housed in a State Marine Conservation Area--and that's because it's home to a biologically productive reef!

But did you know that Swamis is under consideration for a new and improved Marine Protected Area? Yep! Under legislation passed in 1999, the Marine Life Protection Act, Swamis is being considered for a makeover.

The Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) is a law that requires the State to establish a network of marine protected areas in near-shore waters from Oregon to the Mexican border.

Think of these areas as underwater parks!

The goals of the MLPA are to "set aside areas" of the ocean to increase fish populations, enhance marine habitat, and improve recreational, educational, and study opportunities.

There are many organizations and locals who support 'setting aside' Swamis so that surfers, tide-poolers, and ocean-users can leave a legacy for future generations and improve the overall health of southern California's ocean.

To show your support please sign this petition telling the Fish and Game Commissioners that you want a strong network of Marine Protected Areas.
