Save the life of Ehsan Arjemandi

Dear Mr. President,

We urge you to appeal to Pakistani General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Interior Minister Rehman Malik to produce abducted Norwegian citizen Ehsan Arjemandi in a court of law.

Attempts by the Norwegian government to locate and secure the release Ehsan have failed.

Ehsan Arjemandi was abducted from a bus at Zero Point, Balochistan, on August 7, 2009. He has not been heard from or seen in public since then. The Pakistani intelligence service, the ISI, is believed to be responsible for the abduction.

In July 2010, journalist Atta Ansari of Norway's NRK reported that Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik acknowledged Ehsan was in Pakistan's custody:

Eshan should be made aware of any charges against him, produced in a court of law and allowed to defend himself against those charges (as should all Baloch and Pakistani citizens who have been extra-judicially disappeared).

All persons who have tried to locate and intervene on behalf of Ehsan--family, friends and Ehsan's human rights lawyer, Randi Spydevold--have encountered a wall of silence from Pakistani authorities.

Pakistan is an ally on the U.S. War on Terror. Pakistan's military receives U.S. taxpayer funding. Countless Baloch citizens are alleged to have been extra-judicially abducted and killed by Pakistan's security and intelligence agencies. Below is information related to Ehsan's case, as well as the cases of other Baloch.

We urge you and the U.S. Congress to act. Help prevent Ehsan Arjemandi and other Baloch from becoming statistics in the database of extra-judicially killed Baloch citizens (http://www.bygwaah.com/modules/bygwaah/) in Pakistan.
