Save Stead Park

Save Stead Park

The Issue

Plans are being proposed to reduce the active field space at Dupont Circle's Stead Park by 25%, which would jeopardize current community leagues like soccer, vollyball, kickball, from using the fields. DC already has a limited number of green space available for children and adults to play on, so reducing this unique gem in Dupont Circle would impact the health and wellness of residents who use the park daily.

We encourage DPR to work to make the fields more accessible to local schools, through working proactively with public, charter, and day care organizations. We would like to see the limited funds being received be used to renovate the existing field with re sodding, enhanced fencing, added benches and upgraded lighting. A water feature is not recommended due to the increase insect and rodent problems it would attract to the park, plus DPR's capacity to maintain this feature would be limited or unavailable.

A Public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, October 3rd 7pm at JCC to provide additional information and answer questions regarding the proposals. I will personally hand-deliver your signatures at this meeting, so please make your voice heard and sign my petition to save Stead Park.

Martin EspinozaPetition StarterI love this vibrant, exciting neighborhood and the diversity of its residents. the streets of this wonderful community are where neighbors interact, build businesses, shop, eat, relax and experience the best of inner-city living. I want to make sure we constantly strive to improve this special place–our home. Since arriving in D.C., I’ve sought to grow community involvement in our neighborhood, co-founding the Stonewall Sports organization that has drawn hundreds of patrons to 17th Street businesses. We’ve raised thousands for local charities, including the D.C. Center, and worked to make sure our fantastic Stead Park is a center of social activity, physical fitness and fun.
