SAVE OUR DOGS- DON'T SUPPORT BSL

Many of you have heard of BSL, or breed specific legislation; But for those who may not clearly understand, BSL is a law or ordinance passed by a legislative body pertaining to a specific breed or breeds of domesticated animals. This specific breed is typically an American Pit Bull Terrier but can include terrier breeds, German Shepherd’s, Rottweiler’s, and other large bodied dogs. BSL can range from complete bans on the possession of these dogs or mandatory rules that must be followed in order to own the specific breed. 

Why is BSL bad?

BSL does not improve public safety or prevent dog bites/attacks

BSL requires each and every dog to be identified as a breed- something that is impossible

BSL makes the target breeds more desirable to irresponsible and criminal owners

BSL does nothing to make irresponsible dog owners accountable

BSL punishes responsible dog owners

BOTTOM LINE- BSL fails to target the problem- PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED.

If the owners are responsible then why aren’t they being punished instead of the breed?

That is the point I want to get across, I do not support BSL because I blame the irresponsible owners, not the breed of dog. Many legislators believe the hype surrounding these so called dangerous dogs and ignore the real root of the problem- their owners.

Why do people support BSL?

For those few who support BSL they feel the goal is to end dog attacks by targeting certain breeds, typically Pit Bulls, that are “inherently vicious/dangerous”, and dogs that tend to appeal to people who are involved in criminal activity. IF PIT BULLS ARE OUTLAWED ONLY OUTLAWS WILL OWN THEM. THIS CAUSES AN OUROBOROS. 

What I ask-

Please help to lift the BSL laws in the state of Missouri and help spread the word of these wonderful breeds. Together we can help the community understand Pit Bulls and other so called dangerous breeds for what they truly are, loving, smart, and obedient. There are approximately 38 counties in Missouri with a BAN on the Pit Bull breed, but we can work together to help repeal these BSL laws! By helping Missouri you can help support the lift of BSL in other states!
