Save our AMACHI Program

Save our AMACHI Program
The Issue
Last week the US House of Representatives approved budget proposal (H.R.1) which would COMPLETELY ELIMINATE funding for the US Department of Health and Human Services' Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program (AMACHI).
Children of incarcerated individuals have an 80% chance of going to prison themselves. Those who have mentors have a 92% chance of avoiding that fate. For every $1 of public investment in mentoring kids with incarcerated parents, there is a $3.28 benefit based on increased outcomes and reduced violence and crime. If just 1 child in 100 youth enrolled in Big Brothers Big Sisters' program is put on the right path, stays in school and out of prison, tax payers break even on their investment.
Help give the children in our community a chance at life by asking our Senators to support funding for the mentoring of children of incarcerated individuals.
