AN OPEN LETTER TO DR. ESSAM SHARAF, PRIME MINISTER OF THE GOVERNMENT OF EGYPT

His Excellency Dr. Essam Sharaf, Prime Minister of Egypt

The undersigned on this letter are professionals, scientists and professors working in institutions, universities and research centers in the United States of America and Europe.
Many of us have been following the news of Nile University in Egypt since the January 25, 2011 revolution. We are disturbed to know that Nile University (NU) is being threatened to shut down. Such news came as a shock to all of us, especially when we were all looking forward to celebrating with our colleagues in NU, its move to the new campus in January 2011 in a new Egypt after the revolution. Many of us were looking forward to fulfill our dream of helping Egypt achieve its rightful position in Science and Technology by offering our knowledge in a field that we can contribute to through Nile University.
We are aware of the hard work, effort, and investment that went into initiating and building Nile University. In a very short period, Nile University was able to position itself among world universities as a young, aggressive research university ready to tackle technological challenges in a number of fields. The quality of the research conducted by the Egyptian researchers is comparable to the research conducted in many US and European universities. Those of us that were fortunate to interact with NU researchers and graduate students witnessed with pride their research output. We salute the enthusiasm and vigor by which the Egyptian students and researchers were collaborating in a research environment that is rarely found in Egypt for the good of their country. It is no wonder that NU students were sought after by many universities in Europe and the US.
The impact that NU has created in Egypt in a very short period is very much appreciated by its graduates and by the companies that collaborated with the university in research.
As professionals, educators and scientists we hate to see the demise of such successful and desperately-needed institution, especially now more than ever. In the interest of Egypt, we urge you to take the necessary steps to stop the damage of Nile University’s image and to enable NU to continue its noble mission. From our end, we are willing to do everything in our power to see to it that Nile University continues to be a leading research institution in Egypt.

الموقعون على هذه الخطاب هم مجموعة من المهنيين و العلماء والأساتذة الذين يعملون في الجامعات ومراكز البحوث في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وأوروبا .
سيادة الدكتور : الكثير منا يتابع انباء جامعة النيل في مصر منذ ثورة 25 يناير 2011
لقد شعرنا بالقلق الشديد لمعرفة مايهدد جامعة النيل بالإيقاف , حيث جاءت هذه الأنباء بمثابة صدمة لنا جميعا ، وخصوصا عندما كنا جميعا نتطلع إلى الاحتفال مع زملائنا الباحثين في جامعة النيل بانتقالها إلى الحرم الجامعي الجديد في يناير 2011 في مصر "الجديدة" بعد الثورة .
لقد كان الكثير منا يتطلع إلى تحقيق حلمنا لمساعدة مصر من خلال جامعة النيل في تحقيق مكانتها التي تستحقها في مجال العلوم والتكنولوجيا من خلال تقديم معرفتنا في الحقل الذي يمكنا المساهمة فية.
الكثير منا على بينة من العمل الشاق والجهد والاستثمار الذي ذهب في تصميم و تخطيط وتنفيذ و بناء جامعة النيل والذى مكن الجامعة فى وقت قياسى من وضع نفسها بين جامعات العالم كجامعة مصرية بحثية فتية قادرة لمواجهة التحديات التكنولوجية في العديد من المجالات .
و كما يشهد من تسنى لة منا العمل مع باحثى جامعة النيل فان نوعية الأبحاث التي تجرى من قبل الباحثين المصريين فى جامعة النيل يماثل الأبحاث التي تجري في العديد من الجامعات الاميريكية و الأوروبية , كما يثنى الجميع على الحماس والنشاط الذي يبدية الباحثون و الطلبة المصريون فى السعى لاستكمال ابحاثهم لخدمة بلدهم و التى لم تكن لتتم لولا المناخ البحثى الذى توفرة جامعة النيل. كما انة ليس من الغريب ان تسعى العديد من الجامعات العالمية الى استقطاب خريجى جامعة النيل لاستكمال ابحاثهم لديها.
ان الأثر الذي تركتة جامعة النيل في فترة قصيرة لهو موضع تقدير كبير من خريجيها، ومن الشركات التي تعاونت مع الجامعة في مجالات بحثية.
نحن المهنيون و الأساتذة والعلماء الموقعون ادناة نكره أن نرى زوال جامعة النيل والذى يضر كثيرا بالمؤسسة البحثية المصرية و يهدر الكثير من الجهد و المال و البحث العلمى الذى تحتاجة مصر ألأن اكثر من اى وقت مضى .
وعلية فنهيب بسيادتكم اتخاذ الخطوات اللازمة لوقف الضرر الذي يحدث لصورة جامعة النيل, واتخاذ القرارات التى تمكن الجامعة من الأستمرار فى تادية مهمتها السامية . ومن جهتنا فنحن على اتم استعداد لبذل كل ما في وسعنا للتأكد من أن تستمرجامعة النيل كمؤسسة تعليمية بحثية رائدة في مصر
