Save Hawthorne Farmland From the Bulldozers

Save Hawthorne Farmland From the Bulldozers

The Issue

Hawthorne Farm is the only remaining vestige of a farm within easy walking distance of town center.  In 2010 the Town of Amherst purchased the house, barns, land for $500,000 with funds from the Community Preservation Act for “open space, recreation, and affordable housing." The Friends of Hawthorne Farm believe that there is a rich range of possible uses for the land which would be in keeping with the original spirit of this rural landscape. We believe that these should be fully explored before the land is bulldozed and drained for a ball field.
