Save energy and save the planet! Turn down your thermostat and inflate your tires.

The Issue

People,

We can all do our part to stop global warming by reducing our individual contribution to greenhouse gas emission by conserving energy in the home and in our car.  Here are a list of specific things we SHOULD all do.

Please sign this pledge if you are committed to the following actions.  Make sure you talk to family, friends and neighbors about what you are doing and why and encourage them to do the same.

1) Check our car tires regularly and make sure they are properly inflated, especially before any long trips.  Remember last summer, Obama told us this was one of the best ways to save gas.

2) Turn down the thermostat in your home.  If you don't already have one, install a programmable thermostat and make sure you set it to a lower temperature during the day when you aren't home and at night when you're in bed.  Get some slippers and wear a robe or get a little space heater so you feel warmer when the room is cooler.  During the summer, of coarse, the temperature should be set higher and you can compensate by wearing fewer clothes.3) Plan car trips (especially errand runs) so you driver fewer miles.  Sign up for ride sharing and/or use public transportation as often as possible.  I enjoy using Metra and CTA in the Chicago area and Metro in Washington, DC.

4) Get a bicycle and use it.  You'll save money and the planet and feel better and healthier.5) Talk to your family, friends and neighbors about the importance of these simple changes and encourage and help them do them.

For the last year, I have been on sabatical from my engineering profession working full-time on the Obama Campaign and for other local political campaigns (see below). I was unfairly and ignorantly off-shored and layed-off from Motorola in Nov. 2007 and decided to spend the next year fighting for the changes we need in our government and in our corporate board rooms. I'm currently staying in Washington, DC, interviewing for jobs and attending various Obama and Representative Mary Jo Kilroy events.
