Saudis have been waiting for the Ministry of Justice to issue a law to prevent child marriages and prosecute those who allow their children to be raped under the pretensions of marriage.
On April 14th 2009, the Minister of Justice issued a statement to the press, that a new system of bylaws will be implemented so that we would no longer subject children to this abuse. Unfortunately, it has been over a year and we are still waiting. Even worse, several child marriages have occurred during our wait.
The recent media silence might be explained by the report that sources within the ministry of justice have informed AlWatan newspaper that 40 cases were prevented in the Eastern Region by verbal instruction alone. Since the ministry finds it embarrassing and saw fit to prevent these cases of wedlock pedophilia, why won't it just set a legal age for marriage?
Since the media attention has caused the Saudi ministry of justice to issue these verbal instructions to its employees so things might quiet down until we forget, let's show them that we won't forget! Each and every little girl subjected to this sanctioned form of pedophilia is a crime against humanity.
Tell the Saudi minister of justice just what you think of child marriages under the Twitter hashtag #Saudichildbrides and sign the petition asking the minister to set a legal age for marriage, so that we can prosecute parents and guardians who willingly give or sell their daughters to a pedophile.
Legal marriage age

To His Excellency Dr. Muhammad ibn Abd al-Karim bin Abdul Aziz Al-Essa, Minister of Justice,
This is in response to your statement published in Al Watan on April 14, 2009 in which you stated that the Ministry of Justice is preparing a new system to put an end to the marriage of minors in the Kingdom.
It has been more than a year since your Excellency's announcement has been issued, and still there are cases in which innocent Saudi children, in the absence of a legal age law, are not protected if their parents do not respect their childhood.
We request that you protect our daughters by implementing a law to prevent the marriage of girls under the age of eighteen.
Thank you and I look forward to your reply.
