Bring the school bus back.

The Issue

Between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2011 there were 168 (one hundred and sixty eight) bicycle and pedestrian collisions on major streets within the Safe Routes to School zones of San Juan Unified School District.

Getting kids to and from school is an issue that impacts every resident in the San Juan Unified School District.

The failure of the San Juan Unified School District to provide transportation means parents of every school age child have to either figure how to manage on their own or make a decision to designate a parent to work less or not at all in order to transport their kids to and from school and be home at 3:00 every day. Part time or flexible jobs are hard to find — that’s an economic impact on the family. Highly skilled people are staying out of the workforce to transport and care for their kids — that’s a statewide economic impact.

Our children's safety should not be decided by San Juan Unified budget cuts or district votes. Our children's safety is at stake due to the high volume, high speed of traffic, and the width of the intersections.

School parking lots lack defined space for pick-up and drop-off.

Since the removal of the bus service, the presence of buses at Starr King has increased.

Decisions school districts make do not affect just students and parents.  Their decisions effect everyone in their district. Your tax dollars,  your home values and your neighborhood is effected by school districts. Make your voice heard by contacting San Juan Unified School District at (916) 971-7700  or email the Board at  boardmembers@sanjuan.edu.
