Drop All Charges Against Fly Benzo!

Drop All Charges Against Fly Benzo!
The Issue
On 10/18/11 at around 1 p.m. in the SF Bayview district, a block from where Kenneth Harding was murdered by SFPD, two police officers, Officer Norment and Officer Fry, began harassing DeBray "Fly Benzo" Carpenter, a straight-A SF City College student. For no given reason, one officer began filming DeBray with his cell phone in plain sight. Sensing that the officers may be engaging in misconduct, DeBray exercised his constitutional right and began filming the officers as well. This action prompted one of the officers to assault DeBray. Video footage shows the officer pulling DeBray by his dreadlocks and slamming him against the pavement. More officers arrive on the scene, and the video footage shows the officers violently taking down DeBray (jamming their knees into his back and sides in the process). DeBray's brother, Tommy Clayton, was also brutalized by the police in the same manner.
The harassment and subsequent arrest that DeBray received was evidently retaliation for critiquing police following their murder of Kenneth Harding, 19, who bled to death for half an hour without first aid while police trained their guns on him and the horrified crowd.
DeBray is currently out on $95,000 bail, but is facing up to four years prison time for multiple charges that are being brought against him by the district attorney’s office for this incident. As DeBray put it, "This child molester coach from Penn State, his bail was $100,000 and he touched six kids. He’s accused of touching six kids and his bail was only $5,000 more than mine and all I did was videotape a crooked cop. And I’m facing four years in the state pen for videotaping a cop." We need to defend people from the brutality of the same police that criminalize our movements and communities, and stand up for racial and economic justice for all! Free DeBray "Fly Benzo" Carpenter! Demand that all charges be dropped!
