Reject the Plaza de Panama Project as currently designed.

Reject the Plaza de Panama Project as currently designed.
The Issue
There is a current push to bring back the horrendous Jacobs/Sanders, and now Mayor Faulconer, plan for a bypass bridge and roadway to be built onto the historic Cabrillo Bridge in Balboa Park. The plan is especially inappropriate now in light of a now open Plaza de Panama and a 650-space parking structure the San Diego Zoo has built that make this project 100% unnecessary by anyone’s math.
The project is extremely destructive and would forever alter the iconic and ceremonial entrance to the park and the historic landscape that surrounds it.
Balboa Park belongs to all the people of San Diego and it is the public who should decide its future. This project is the seed of privatization and commercialization of the people’s park. The plan would disenfranchise many with the introduction of a paid parking garage in the core of the park.
The plan also threatens to strip the park of its National Historic Landmark District status.
Please ask that the City of San Diego reject any effort to go forward with this plan.
