We, the undersigned, as consumers and fans of rock music, wish to see considered for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for Musical Excellence- MR. Harvey Brooks.

The Issue

Brooks ’melodic bass would keep the beat to some of the most important recordings in Rock history. From Bob Dylan’s explosive folk departure “Highway 61 Revisited “to the single “Positively 4th Street”; from the first “Super Group” LP “Super Sessions” featuring Stephen Stills and Mike Bloomfield; to Miles Davis’ revolutionary work of Jazz/Rock fusion, “Bitches Brew”.

As a performer, he stood by Bob Dylan for his first breakout electric shows- Forest Hills and the Hollywood Bowl in 1965. As an original member of The Electric Flag, he played the Monterey Pop Festival. The Doors called upon Harvey for shows at the LA Forum and Madison Square Garden. There was a legendary jam with Harvey and Jimi Hendrix at the Café Au Go Go on March 17th, 1968.

Since 1965, Harvey Brooks and his signature sound was utilized by an astounding amount of musicians- expanding and keeping a beat ahead of the genre: The soundtrack for the Roger Corman precursor to “Easy Rider”- “The Trip” starring Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper written by Jack Nicholson; Cass Elliot’s experimental debut album “Dream a Little Dream”; Richie Haven’s “Mixed Bag”;The Doors “Soft Parade” and the first Jefferson Starship concept album (and first album ever nominated for a Hugo Award) - “Blows Against the Empire”. The list of Hall of Fame artists who called upon Harvey is overwhelming –underscoring his diversity, talent and selfless progression of Rock.
