Robert Sarver and the Phoenix Suns organization: Please return to using purple and orange as the team colors of the Phoenix Suns.

The Issue

Since the Phoenix Suns officially became a team in 1968, the colors of purple and orange together have been synonymous with this great organization. Many teams in the NBA and all of sports have donned orange or purple, but none have utilized purple and orange side-by-side. This is a unique color combination that all Suns fans have been proud to wear to support their team.

Last year (2012), the team debuted a new home court at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona. When the new court was unveiled, conspicuous by its absence was the color purple. Fans were surprised by the heavy usage of black in place of purple. Whereas previous home courts had lots of purple and orange, this new court was predominately black and orange with a microscopic amount of purple on two smaller PHX bird logos. Concerns were voiced, but the team assured fans purple was still part of the team's identity was not going anywhere.

In 2013, it was rumored the team would be debuting an entirely new look with updated logos and brand new uniforms. In mid-June of this year, the team introduced their new team logos. Fans were once again dismayed at the mostly black and orange logos. Three of the four new logos did not include any purple whatsoever (the only logo with any purple was, again, the PHX bird). Once again, the team was quick to shoot down rumors of the organization dropping the color purple.

The final straw came on August 15 when the team formally debuted their new uniforms. For the first time in team history, the home uniform contains no purple on its design (an extremely small PHX bird logo can be seen on the back). The team also introduced an all-orange, sleeved uniform which also does not feature purple in its main design (aside from, again, the small PHX bird logo). There is an all purple road uniform, which was a welcome surprise, but one road uniform (to be worn during away games and not at home) and one logo does not lead fans to believe the organization's stance that 'purple will always be part of the Suns' and it's 'not going anywhere'. Worst of all, the new logos, uniforms and home court could have easily incorporated purple in place of black, but that was not the case.

Seeing is believing and by the looks of it, the Phoenix Suns are a black and orange team, with purple being a third or accent color at best. As a long time Phoenix Suns fan myself, I am saddened and disheartened to see this unnecessary change. This petition is to ask Robert Sarver (team owner) and the entire Phoenix Suns organization to reconsider this change towards a black and orange future and return the organization to its natural colors of purple and orange.  At the earliest possible time, please revise the logos, jerseys and home court to include purple. The new designs and modern look of the logos, jerseys and home court are great, they simply need to include some purple.

If you agree with the above statements, please take a moment to sign this petition and tell the Suns organization why you're a Suns fan and why this is very importatn to you. Thank you.
