Revoke Chicago Diocese tax exempt status

Revoke Chicago Diocese tax exempt status
The Issue
We, the undersigned, respectfully urge the United States Internal Revenue Service (the IRS) to revoke the tax-exempt status of the Chicago Archdiocese headed by Cardinal Francis George for his taking license with and/or violating Section 503 (c) (3) of the IRS code. We believe the Cardinal, long opposed to the legalization of same-sex marriage, has crossed the line in substantially attempting to influence state legislation that would grant LGBT people the right to marry their partners. While the Cardinal has been recently working closely with and encouraging the anti-gay African American Clergy Coalition, his efforts fly in the face of a growing number of African-American leaders including ministers and the former head of the NAACP, Julian Bond, who have come out in favor LGBT marriage rights.
