Remove harmful, derogatory, misogynistic articles or shut down
The Issue
A post graced my Tumblr dashboard the other day displaying screenshots of headlines from the site ReturnofKings.com. I was immediately shocked. The site is full of articles about exacerbating the fat shaming trend, why it is beneficial to date a girl with an eating disorder and why parents should beat their children.
Upon visiting the site's about page, you see an organized list of their beliefs, the gems of which include:
· Women are sluts if they sleep around, but men are not.
· A woman's value is mainly determined by her fertility and beauty. A man's value is determined by his resources, intellect and character.
· Elimination of traditional gender roles and the promotion of unlimited mating choice in women unleash their promiscuity and other negative behaviors that block family formation.
And these are worded carefully. These men identify themselves as masculine, heterosexual men (which is all fine and good), who believe men should be masculine and women should be feminine. Well, that's not really their call. The whole site is FILLED with articles that slut shame, fat shame, refer to birth control as "whore pills", and suggest ways to control a woman's diet and convince a girl to get an abortion.
It's bad enough these bullies are probably treating people poorly in real life, but now they have a community to rally in and organize things like Fat Shaming Week. This can be categorized as an act of hate, as it is hostile and harmful to a certain group they see as different.
While these men are entitled to embrace their masculinity, they are NOT by any means entitled to bullying (organized or cyber), manipulation, and outright misogyny. Especially not organized acts of hate against people they see unworthy of acceptance.
I am petitioning to either get the site to remove the harmful content from their site, or shutdown the site entirely. As a result of fat shaming week, I am also attempting to get the site to be recognized as a hate group.
