Repeal breed specific legislation in University City

The Issue

*What's going on in University City?*

Currently in U City, pit bull breeds and their owners experience unfair restrictions, including but not limited to:

--No access to community dog parks

--Dogs must be muzzled in public

--Owners must have special insurance

--Leashes no longer than 4 feet in length

--Owners must display "BEWARE PIT BULL HERE" sign at their residence

If these rules are not obeyed owners can be jailed, fined, and have their dog taken away.

*Why does this matter?*

Pit bulls are kind, smart, and playful dogs. This city ordinance punishes owners and dogs based on myths about the breed. Owners can't take their dogs to the community dog park. They have to pay extra money.

*But aren't pit bulls dangerous?*

Many city ordinances like this one are based on misinformation. The ASPCA and many other sources state that pit bulls are no more aggressive or dangerous than your average dog. In fact, they have a history of kindness towards humans. They even got the nickname "nursemaid's dog" because of their reliability with kids.

*What will signing accomplish?*

Signing this petition will show the University City Council that there is a public interest in reforming this ordinance. After they see that the community has a position on the matter, they will take a vote among the council to repeal or retain the law.
