[CLW] Republicans Trying to Steal a Senate Seat   :)

April 24, 2009

A Minnesota canvassing board has declared Al Franken the winner in his race for Senate.A panel of three Minnesota judges agreed. And Minnesota voters – by a margin of 312 votes – chose Al Franken as the winner.
But Republican Norm Coleman is desperately trying to find some way to steal the election. Taking a page from George Bush’s Florida playbook in 2000, Coleman is using legal maneuvers to subvert the will of the voters. Just this week, he appealed the most recent court decision to the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Last November, we all waited patiently as this race was too close to call. Only about 200 votes separated the two candidates in a race where nearly 2 million ballots were cast.

We’ve waited – a little less patiently – as Coleman has decided time and time again that the answer “you lose” was not good enough for him.

Now, more than 100 days after the November elections, Minnesota voters still lack full representation in the U.S. Senate.

Is Coleman just a sore loser? Or is this part of a larger campaign to stop Democrats from getting one step closer to a filibuster-proof 60-vote majority in the Senate?

Click here to help Al Franken keep Coleman from stealing the election.

The cost of the recount to Franken thus far has been tremendous - millions of dollars in legal and other bills in a matter of months. And Coleman’s appeal to the state Supreme Court might not be his last desperate act. He could still decide to take this race to the federal courts.

Franken is not backing down. He has waited for more than four months to take his seat as the next U.S. Senator from Minnesota.

But he’s waited long enough.

Please consider a contribution today to send Norm Coleman the message that Minnesota voters have spoken, and enough is enough.

Sincerely,

John Isaacs and Guy Stevens
