Last week, Rep. Todd Akin said NBC's omission of the words "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance was part of a "systematic effort to try to separate our faith and God...from our country."

He framed his comments by saying NBC is a "liberal" network and "at the heart of liberalism really is a hatred of God and a belief that government should replace God."

This is obviously false, but so far Akin has refused to apologize for his outrageous statement.  His spokesperson has just made excuses, saying Akin was not referring to "anyone's individual relationship with God."

This is not good enough.  Rep. Akin has insulted his constituents and many people of faith and conscience across the country.  He should do the right thing and apologize.
