A petition to support the reconsideration of using Hoover Elementary School as a swing school

Following the possible closure of Hoover Elementary School in 2016, children served by Hoover elementary will be rezoned to neighboring elementary schools, most of which will undergo some sort of construction that may require students to relocate to a transitional space, or a “swing school.” Many Hoover students, who will have already lost their school, could move to a new school, move an additional time back to the Hoover building to accommodate construction at their receiving schools, and then return once again to their new schools.

These moves, coupled with possible additional moves due to rezoning in both 2018 and 2020, disproportionately burden the children served by Hoover elementary and work against ensuring stability and equitable educational access for those who will have already suffered the loss of a school. We urge the ICCSD Board of Directors to reconsider the use of Hoover Elementary School as a swing school during the ten-year school facilities construction process.
