The World Report on the Culture of Peace was submitted to the United Nation's Secretary General, highlighting the inspiring and pragmatic work of over 1,000 peace organizations globally. But the U.N. General Assembly still needs to debate and recognize the World Report, and with it the accomplishments of these and all peacebuilders. You can take quick, effective action by urging the Assembly to do just that at their next meeting. Sign this special request to the U.N. Secretary-General and Assembly President, and ask all peacebuilders globally to do so too!

Request for General Assembly Recognition of the World Report on the Culture of Peace

Dear Mr. Secretary-General and Assembly President,

I am writing to request that the World Civil Society Report on the Culture of Peace, sent to the Secretary General by Dr. AK Abdul Momen, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative from Bangladesh to the United Nations, be debated and recognized at the next meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.

This World Report responds to the call in operative paragraphs 13 and 17 of the General Assembly resolution A/RES/64/80 requesting you be made aware of activities and observance of the Decade, and that you submit a summary of this World Report to the General Assembly.

I respectfully request that you forward this World Report so that the ongoing participation of peace organizations, over 1,000 in all, will be recognized by the United Nations General Assembly when they hold their debate marking the end of the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010).

Although the report that you received could only contain a summary of the innumerable activities of the participating organizations, the full information has been made available on the Internet at http://decade-culture-of-peace.org/end-of-decade-report/cgi-bin/ib4/ikonboard.cgi

Thank you for your recognition global efforts for a culture of peace and non-violence. Along with most of the other organizations participating in this report, I agree that, while the Decade for a Culture of Peace is ending, the global movement for cultures of peace is just beginning.

Yours truly,

[Your name]
