Oculus Rift support for PS4 (next gen consoles)

The Oculus Rift is the world’s first truly immersive Virtual Reality head mounted display which has been making huge waves in the gaming industry ever since its first unveil at E3 2012. John Carmack cofounder of ID Software and Palmer Lucky the Oculus Rift’s designer showed it off to the public and received amazing feedback.

The Oculus Rift was successfully crowed funded on Kickstarter and in less than 36 hours they managed to secure over $1,000,000 which later totaled at $2,437,429.

The current dev model of the Oculus Rift sports a wide angle field of view, with a stereoscopic 3D 640x800 resolution screen per eye and a low latency head tracking, amongst other features these as the primary reasons why the Oculus Rift stands out amongst the rest of the competition.

Some of the amazing content which has been developed for the Oculus since it started shipping in late 2012 range from commercial games ala Team Fortress, Doom BFG Edition, Hawken amongst others which have been updated to support the Oculus Rift, to smaller tech demos from VR enthusiast. It brings me to why I have made this petition, currently the Oculus Rift is only supported by PC’s and it has been mentioned by the developers of the Oculus that they would like to have it fully supported on next gen consoles in the future. As a proud console gamer for the last 20 years, I can only imagine the innovation this would bring to the console gaming space, as the most popular games which have been released on the current gen consoles have been first person games (Call of Duty series, Battlefield series, Skyrim) and I’m sure that will continue into the next gen console cycle.

If Sony can support the Oculus Rift for their next gen console (PS4) just think of the possibilities for unique, exciting and innovative gaming experiences that will be created if it’s used in conjunction with their motion sensing tech (PS Move)

We will not longer be constrained to look at a flat 2D image on a tv screen and just sit on a couch, while playing our favorite games.The Oculus Rift removes those boundaries and it creates total immersion.

I don’t know anything about corporate strategies of big organizations like Sony but I’m a passionate gamer, based on the energy and immense positive feedback surrounding the Oculus Rift even before they’ve released their commercial consumer unit it would be a big mistake on Sony’s part not to support Oculus Rift or have a similar product available. This in my opinion is the epitome of what next gen gaming tech means.
