Province of BC, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority: stop cuts to community-based mental-health services in Vancouver BC

The Issue

People who have mental health issues need non-stigmatizing support in their communities, not just in hospitals. Recently 3 community based mental health support agencies were informed that they will be closing/having funding significantly reduced: The Art Studios, ACE Access Community through English, the BC Schizophrenic Society, the Mood Disorders Association and the West Coast Mental Health Network. These services provide stability for very vulnerable individuals and help them to live in the community and avoid crises which could put them in the hospital. It is both compassionate and fiscally responsible to maintain these community services.
