Protect our waterways and open spaces!
On Nov. 4th. voters overwhelmingly supported the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment, which will provide funding to protect our waterways, parks and trails, and wildlife habitat. But, in these tough economic times, elected officials might be tempted to ignore the voters’ mandate in favor of a quick fix for the state's budget crisis.
Environment Minnesota will be working to ensure that this new, vital funding source is protected. You can help: Send a message to your legislators, to let them know that we can't afford to shortchange Minnesota's waterways and open spaces.
Dear Legislator:
Minnesota’s special places are at risk. Right now, 40% of our state’s tested waterways are polluted. And we are losing our open spaces to development at an alarming rate. Meanwhile, state funding for natural resources remains at an all time low.
Voters overwhelmingly supported the passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment on November 4th, providing dedicated funding to protect clean water, parks and trails, and wildlife habitat.
Despite these tough economic times, please oppose any move to raid these new long-term conservation funds to fix short-term budgetary shortfalls, or any move to treat these new funds as a substitute for existing funds when they were clearly intended to supplement.
Sincerely,
