As you are probably aware of, development of antibiotic resistant bacteria is traceable to factory farms, where antibiotics are administered to promote growth and prevent disease in animals that are not sick.  Non-therapeutic livestock use constitutes 70 % of antibiotics consumed in the US.  Life threatening antibiotic-resistant infections jeopardize successful hospitalizations and have increased US health care costs approximately $30 billion.  The Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act, P.A.M.T.A., HR 1549 and SR 619, would prohibit the non-therapeutic feeding of medically important antibiotics to livestock, but would not restrict the use of antibiotics to treat sick animals.  Keep "miracle drugs" effective for humans and animals by passing the Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act, now.
