The Issue
On December 1, 2011, AM760 and Clear Channel cancelled the award-winning Mario Solis-Marich Show to the shock of the Latino and Progressive communities nationally. We demand that Clear Channel reinstate the Mario Solis-Marich Show for the following reasons:
• The cancellation of the Mario Solis-Marich Show leaves an appalling void in English-language radio talk shows. The Show is only one of two English-language radio talk shows hosted by a Latino in the country despite the fact that Latinos comprise our nation’s largest minority group.
• The Mario Solis-Marich Show has been the only English-language radio talk show to consistently promote Latino community events and present on-air issues of concern to the Latino community nationally. The Show has been a stalwart supporter of Latino issues and Latino organizations throughout the country.
• The Mario Solis-Marich Show has been a popular radio talk show on the progressive radio station AM 760 in Denver, CO, for the past four years. In March 2011, the Show received the coveted Award of Excellence for Best Host/Best Talk Show from the Colorado Broadcasters Association.
• The cancellation of the Mario Solis-Marich Show demonstrates Clear Channel’s complete lack of sensitivity to the Latino community in spite of its growing population. This reflects Clear Channel’s lack of Latinos in the senior management and program administration of Clear Channel, as well as the lack of management diversity generally. In addition, Clear Channel airs a number of radio talk shows nationally that promote anti-Latino hate speech.
You are urged to:
(1) Join us by signing this petition to demand the reinstatement of the Mario Solis Marich Show which will be submitted to AM760 and Clear Channel;
(2) Call AM760 and ask Dan Mandis to reinstate the Show 303.713.800;
(3) Boycott Clear Channel advertisers and programming, and
(3) File a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission, https://esupport.fcc.gov/ccmsforms/form2000.action?form_type=2000E. Note that Clear Channel has failed to air programming that is responsive to the needs and problems of the local community of license and has not operated Clear Channel stations in the public interest.
