Prison Reform Put Our Money Where it Counts!

The Issue

Facts are, America has the highest incarceration rate, and prison population in the world. Something is obviously wrong. Once a nonviolent person has been to prison, the percentage of that person committing another crime increases. When a nonviolent person is sentenced to probation instead of prison, their percentage of commiting another crime is not increased. It costs roughly $33,000 annually to house a federal prisoner. A person on probation must pay the government monthly fees. The tax money we pay should go toward building up our people and helping "rehabilitate" nonviolent offenders, not  lowering their chances of success. Somewhere along most of these mens lives, they have missed out learning certain life skills and values. They need a correcting hand. Lets put our money where it counts. We must invest in our people to make tomorrow a better time and place for us all.
