Pobo's Petition: An Open Letter to Congress on Behalf of Afterschool

The Issue

Studies show participation in quality afterschool programs improves social and communication skills, improves relationships with peers and teachers, raises self-confidence and self-esteem and improves feelings and attitudes toward self and school. Afterschool programming is linked to significant gains in standardized test scores and work habits as well as reductions in behavior problems among disadvantaged students. Children involved in high-quality extended learning programs are less likely to skip school, use drugs or drink alcohol.
