Help keep the Topo River wild and free-flowing
The Topo River is an exceptional free-flowing river in the Ecuadorian Amazon. It is part of an ecological corridor that was recognized for its outstanding biodiversity by WWF as a "Gift to the Earth". But all this could change if the Topo Hydroelectric Project is built. Please act now to protect the Topo River.
The Ecuadorian government will determine the fate of the Topo River in the coming days. Dam construction will open up this sensitive area to deforestation and fragmentation. The river's natural flow cycles will be altered and its fragile ecology deteriorated.
Help us to persuade the Ecuadorian government to maintain the integrity of the Topo River and the Llanganates-Sangay Ecological Corridor. Urge them to consider other alternatives for developing secure and renewable energy for Ecuador, and provide permanent protection for the Topo River to keep it as a wild, free-flowing river for future generations.

Please help us to persuade the President and government decision-makers in Ecuador to maintain the integrity of the Topo River and the Llanganates-Sangay Ecological Corridor. Urge them to consider other alternatives for developing secure and renewable energy for Ecuador, and provide permanent protection for the Topo River to keep it as a wild, free-flowing river for the enjoyment of future generations.

I am writing to urge you to designate permanent protection for the Topo River, which will keep the river wild and free-flowing for the benefit of humanity and the environment.
Please consider other alternatives for developing secure and renewable energy in Ecuador, including energy efficiency programs and demand-side management, as well as the prioritization of the development of renewable energy projects in areas that are well-suited for that kind of development, and close to the populations that need them.
The Topo River is a unique and exceptional resource, and forms part of the Llanganates-Sangay Ecological Corridor, which was recognized as a “Gift to the Earth” by the WWF in December, 2002, for its outstanding biodiversity and habitat. There are very few rivers that remain in this quality in Ecuador and the world.
Thank you for your consideration to keep the Topo a natural, free-flowing river for the enjoyment of future generations!
Through this gesture, Ecuador can show that it is serious about preserving its most valuable resources.
Sincerely,
