Pigs' Blood---an Undisclosed Ingredient in Cigarette Filters

The Issue

Recently, Simon Chapman, a professor at the University of Sydney from the Land Down Under (Australia), has found that pig’s blood hemoglobin might be an undisclosed ingredient in cigarette filters.

Due to trade secrets, the tobacco industry is not required to list its ingredients.  This, of course, makes it very difficult to track the animal by-product.

Some companies offer illusions of transparency by voluntarily listing ingredients on their websites, but trace ingredients that do not affect the ‘functionality’ of the product are written off as “processing aids.”

Please sign the petition below insisting that the FDA require that the tobacco industry list all ingredients used in the manufacturing of cigarettes in the United States.  Consumers should know all the ingredients in the manufacturing and processing of cigarettes in the United States.
