It is time for the US to commit itself to not just weaning ourselves from Middle East oil, but to end our dependnece on all forms of petroleum. The devastation to the environment due to the BP fiasco in the Gulf is simply the tip of the iceberg. As long as we continue to burn fossil fuel, the climate, the seas, and our atmosphere will be degraded.
