Petition to preserve and extend Net Neutrality to mobile broadband

The Issue

When the world wide web was created Net Neutrality was one of its main tenets. In fact our government intended it to be created equal across the Internet. They want to create a two tiered unequal Internet with a slow public Internet (a slow lane) that is open, and a new fast commercial lane where you have to pay extra for faster speeds. Everyone should be able to have equal, affordable, universal, open access to the Internet thru a high speed Internet service provider (also referred to as a broadband provider) and it should not matter how we connect to the Internet. Whether we use a fixed wire-line broadband connection (via cable modem or phone company dsl) or mobile broadband services from wireless phone carriers we should have the same Internet. Under paid prioritization which AT&T, Big Telecom and Cable companies want small business owners and new entrepreneurs unable to afford to pay them so users can access their websites faster will be restricted to the slow lane and their businesses may suffer -- an open Internet encourages higher public participation and exists as a level playing field -- the Open Internet threatens the status quo of Old Media companies.

Right now all web traffic is treated equally and under Network Neutrality the ISPs have been required to provide nondiscriminatory access to the Internet -- they want to be allowed to discriminate which is why they lobby against Net Neutrality. FOXNews.com should load no faster or slower than HuffingtonPost.com, CNN.com or any other website. All sites should be treated equally.

Also, in order for ISPs to discriminate they have to be able to look inside Internet packets and find out what users are downloading or uploading etc which is an invasion of privacy.

But now what was created for the benefit of the greater good is now being "pillaged" by corporate America. The internet super infrastructure doesn't discriminate and neither should Google and Verizon between wire-line and wireless frameworks by presetting its own rules.

Google and Verizon are just dividing the 'NET PIE' and they stand to profit from the private services they will offer.

Reading between the lines PCWORLD writes: "The proposal would force broadband providers to comply with "consumer protection and nondiscrimination standards" before offering private Internet services".

This will open Pandora's box of  extreme commercialization across the Internet, and if the broad providers like Google and Verizon are left to their own vices "consumer protection and nondiscrimination standards" will be 'weak and watered-down' especially if they are created and written by them for their own benefit.

Sign the petition and lets make our voices heard on Capitol Hill! Or write your letter but do it today!
