THE PHOTO ABOVE: THEY ARE TAKING THIS GIRLS DOG AWAY FROM HER TO BE KILLED!

It has happened again.

In a brutal campaign targeting not only strays but pets, authorities in the city of Yongxian, China have been slaughtering thousands of dogs in the cruelest of ways.

According to reports coming out of the country, squads tasked with carrying out the bloody orders have been told not to return home until they hunt down every last dog in their assigned districts.

Local animal welfare groups are converging on Xi'an, the provincial capital, to petition against this appalling activity, but they need the support of international attention to this issue.

TAKE ACTION

Please sign our petition addressed to Chinese president Hu Jintao calling for an end to this senseless massacre and assurance that such cruelty will never be allowed to happen again. Urge him to work with local and international animal protection groups to create programs and laws to promote better protection of animals of all kinds in China.

Then, spread the word by letting your friends know how they can help, too. All signatures gathered will be sent to the Chinese government in Beijing on July 7, 2009.

The Chinese animal welfare movement is growing, but its members face many obstacles to their efforts. Your support will help increase their determination to make a difference and reassure them that they are not alone in their struggle.

Thank you for helping these innocent dogs and the people who care about them, and for all that you do for animals.

Sincerely,

Andrew Rowan
