PETITION: Prohibition of possession, use, and distribution of bump keys

PETITION: Prohibition of possession, use, and distribution of bump keys

The Issue

Over 90% of deadbolt locks in American homes can be easily picked using a "bump key".  Even a 10 year old can do it. This type of key is inserted and using a few small taps, it will unlock *any* deadbolt lock. The deadbolt lock is NOT damaged; in fact, you cannot even file homeowner's insurance due to no evidence of a break in. It will appear as though you left the door unlocked.

There are instructionals all over the Internet (e.g., Youtube) how to make a bump key, and even businesses that sell such tools of breaking and entering homes. For example here is such a business:

As breaking and entering burglary are high Felonies in all 50 States, there should be a ban on bump keys. Any person making, distributing,  or being in possession of a bump key should require at least 10 years Federal prison. Bump keys should be viewed as a serious crime.

Prohibiting bump keys will help alleviate the epidemic of homes being entered and broken into, and burglarized.

Here is a news report on bump keys - essential to watch to protect your home -

Thank you for your time and reading and interest in a safer America. Passing such a bill will rapidly expand awareness to the public about how vulnerable their home is due to key bumping-so the consumer will purchase bumpkey resistant locks.

Sincerely,
