Every year, about 9 to 10 milion animals are given to shelters, but only around 4 million are adopted. In comparison, about 4 to 5 million are euthanized. Euthanasia is the act of putting an animal to sleep using medical measures. Euthanasia is caused because animal shelters are overpopulated and there are an insufficent amount of funds to support the animals.  Many animals aren't euthanized after short periods of time because the shelter needs to make room for other animals.  Also, shelters can be low on money because they have to provide the animals with food and medicine.

Some of the most common, dreadful ways to end an animals' life are by lethal injection,  decompression chambers,  gas chambers, or electrocution.

We want animal shelters to inform pet adopters about the situation and "The Pet Protection" agreement.

It's important because this legal document will help reduce the amount of animals brought into shelters, and eventually reduce the overall amount of animals euthanized by these shelters.
