President Obama and the US Congress: Give democracy to DC

The Issue

0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false

How would you feel if you paid federal taxes, served on federal juries and your sons and daughters went to war, risked (and lost) their lives for this country; How would you feel if you felt strongly about an issue and you wanted to talk with your representative about it. but you lived in the one area in the country that has no vote in Congress and no Senate representation for your interests. Perhaps you might feel a little resentful about those federal taxes you’ve been paying.

Congress has it’s own agenda. We’ve recently seen how much that agenda is tied to political interests, not public interests. When an issue affects so few people, it’s easy to ignore it, or bury it. Meanwhile Congress plays out it’s partisan politics, even infringing on local government with decisions about how we can, and cannot, spend local tax dollars.

That is why I am appealing to my fellow countrymen (and women) to sign this petition letting our representatives know that the whole country stands behind fairness to the 600,000 Americans living in the District of Columbia. We know from history, and recent world events, that there is power in numbers. Please stand with us, in the District of Columbia, in our quest bring Full Democracy to Washington, DC. There is an organization working toward that end; if you would like more information, please go to dcvote.org.

Your signature, and the signatures of your friends, family, and contacts, could help make that happen.

Thank you.
