Please direct LBACS to sign the pledge to stop killing shelter animals for Just One Day and also to increase adoption efforts (e.g., offsite adoptions, publicity, reduced adoption fees) on that day.

The Issue

Last year, nearly 4400 animals were euthanized at the Long Beach Animal Care Services shelter. Better methods of addressing pet homelessness exist, but the city management of Long Beach continues to resist them. Just One Day will be held on June 11, 2014. A nationwide movement, it gives a chance for shelters to try out the new programs of the No Kill Equation (adoption, foster, and volunteer programs as well as other innovative programs)  to see just how great they are and how many lives the City can save.   We have asked Long Beach Animal Care Services to participate in Just One Day for two years in a row, and they have declined both times. Please help us ask one more time and save more animals in 2014.  Our city's 50% save rate reflects 1950s style sheltering practices - not 21st century advances in sheltering that we now know exist. Long Beach, we can do better! Let's make 2014 the best year ever for Long Beach's Shelter Animals.
