Participate in Day of Silence

The Issue

Just what the name says:  Participate in the National Day of Silence (DOS) and encourage everyone you know to do the same.  Be forewarned:  In some places, it can be a very frightening day, and you may be harassed pretty viciously.  I am lucky enough to go to a very open-minded small alternative school where almost everyone is silent on DOS, but I have heard some upsetting stories about mistreatment of protesters in other places.  If you don't know what DOS is, here is the official site:  http://www.dayofsilence.org/
DOS is April 17th.  Put it on your calendar and be sure not to forget to print cards you can hand to people to explain what you're doing!

Athene GPetition StarterI'm a high school student, pagan, vegetarian, raised by two atheist Humanists. As a kid I was fed a steady diet of Civil Rights and Union history, animal rights, social justice, and pacifism, with some science as a garnish. I'm a socialist; I fall into basically the same place on the political spectrum as Gandhi (and share a lot of his spiritual beliefs as well). I prefer to say "We must LIVE the change we want to see in the world" because I think it carries stronger connotations of the "Leading by example" message Gandhi intended to convey. I am autistic, and very involved in the Autism Rights and Neurodiversity movements. I also support the Mad Movement. I'm also very interested in alternative education, having been in it ever since I started school.
