Outlaw experimentation on chimpanzees in the US

Outlaw experimentation on chimpanzees in the US
The Issue
Chimpanzees are humankind's closest genetic relative, sharing 96-98% of our DNA. An estimated 1,000 chimpanzees are currently held in U.S. laboratories, of which approximately half are federally owned.
The time has come for the United States to join the moral and humane community of countries like Belgium, Balearic Islands, Austria, Japan, Australia, Sweden, the Netherlands, New Zealand and the United Kingdom that have already banned or severely limited the use of chimpanzees and other great apes in research.
Urge your representatives to support the passage of the Great Ape Protection Act (GAPA), U.S. federal legislation:
1. to end to the use of chimpanzees, and all great apes, in U.S. research;
2. to end U.S. funding for chimpanzee research anywhere in the world;
3. and, to permanently retire all federally owned chimpanzees into sanctuary.
