Whatever the guise, be it Mutual Matching or The Four Autonomys, the Oakland School District needs to bargain with is hard working teachers instead of being influenced by outside influences and the current negative dialogue of the 'bad' teacher.

Stop Union Busting Practices

OUSD, Tony Smith, his cabinet, and outside, corporately funded groups are actively trying to bust the teachers' union. Whatever the guise, be it Mutual Matching or The Four Autonomies, the Oakland School District needs to bargain with it's hard working teachers instead of being influenced by outside agencies and the current negative narrative of the 'bad' teacher.

Why is this important? The dialogue around education is unfairly focused on issues of tenure, last in/first out, and merit pay and how the union is standing in the way of reform. No educator worth their salt wants the few bad eggs to sully the profession. However, it is important to fight and support the rights of labor. Oakland's school district is trying to destroy labor rights and is using the court of public opinion and corporately funded outside groups to chip away at hard fought for contract language that protects teachers. Don't let them win! Tell OUSD to work with the teachers who fight everyday for the students of Oakland, instead of against them.
